March, 1984 – took a vacation to Port Aransas, Texas with Clark and Carolyn Harriman, (Clark is my cousin). We spent three weeks with them fishing, golfing, and playing card games. We had a great time and hope to make more of those kinds of trips with them.
Shortly after returning from that trip, we traded our car in on a 1984 ¾ ton truck and bought a 5th wheel trailer (26 feet).
Rest stop on the open road
Lou and Leona spent many days and nights living contentedly in their home on wheels. I've heard Mom say many times that when they hooked the trailer to the truck and started down the highway, she never was happier than when she looked behind and saw the trailer rolling along behind them.
Their children and grandkids all have very fond memories of spending time with Grandpa and Grandpa in the trailer. Some of those stories will follow - feel free to leave your memories as a comment.

Our time in Port Aransas with Clark and Carolyn was a very special vacation. We actually stayed a month. They had a 31 foot motor home, and we got along great. We fished 3 days, played golf 3 days and drove to Corpus Christi for church on Sunday. I was the only one who was not a golfer. They bought me a box of pink golf balls with my name on each ball. I presume they thought they could find my ball regardless of where I hit it. We found neat places to eat. We had Lou's birthday dinner in a resturant on a boat out in the water. The boat gently rocked the entire time we were eating. Lou doesn't do very well on rocking boats even when he's not eating, but he made it okay, and it was a fun party. Another fun thing about our time in Port Aransas was that it was spring break. The beaches were covered with pickups, boom boxes, beer and scantily clothed students. At least that's the way it looked to me. Clark had his brat (little pickup), and we drove all around the beach. The only problem was that Clark and Lou sat in the cab of the brat, and Carolyn and I had to sit in the back. There were seats that we could sit in, but we were still out in the open as we drove around all those students. Some of the students looked at us and said 'Hi-Grandma'. I was a grandma, but I felt like I was spying on their fun. It took forever to get on the ferry that went to Port Aransas because there were so many people there. Leona
